Courthouse Tours

The District Court opens its doors to students for an inside look at how the federal court system operates.  Students learn about the criminal justice system as they meet with representatives from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Federal Defender’s Office, the Clerk’s Office, the U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services Office, and the U.S. Marshals Service.  The tour culminates with a visit to a courtroom where students will have the opportunity to observe a real court hearing and, after the hearing, discuss the matter with the presiding U.S. District Judge or U.S. Magistrate Judge.  This program can be tailored for different age groups and different focuses (for example, a more career-minded tour can be coordinated to highlight the different career options in the federal judiciary).
