Public Notice for Phishing Emails Targetting Attorneys

 Attorneys across the country are being targeted with fake electronic filing notifications, in which emails purporting to come from the federal Judiciary’s Case Management/Electronic Case Files (CM/ECF) system lead recipients to a malicious website with computer viruses.

According to the IT Security Office for the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, the fake Notices of Electronic Filing prompt recipients to reply immediately. Recipients are then sent an email containing a link to access fake case documents that direct users to a malicious website.

Public Notice for Phone Scam Impersonating Shelby County Sheriff’s Department and Chief Judge Sheryl H. Lipman

The United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee is alerting the public to an ongoing phone scam in which callers are fraudulently claiming to represent the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department and falsely stating that a warrant has been issued by Chief Judge Sheryl H. Lipman. These scam calls are designed to intimidate victims by threatening arrest or legal action unless immediate payment is made or personal information is provided.

2024 Live and Virtual POWER Act CLE Event

The Pro Bono Work to Empower and Represent (POWER) Act was signed into law in September 2018 to help combat domestic abuse and sexual violence. The POWER Act mandates that each year the Chief Judge of each Judicial District across the country hold at least one event promoting pro bono legal services as a critical way to empower survivors of domestic violence, stalking, and sexual assault, engage citizens, and help lift victims out of the cycle of violence.
